Terps Participate in Smith Holiday Drive

Dec 12, 2017

On Dec. 7, 2017, scores of students, faculty and staff at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business joined the building-wide Smith Holiday Drive by supporting the Red Cross’s Blood Drive, donating toys for the District Alliance for Safe Housing and by crafting cheerful greeting cards to be given to elderly residents in a local assisted living facility. The Office of Smith Operations, the Salesforce Advisory Board and the Undergraduate Program Office teamed up to help spread a bit of holiday cheer throughout Van Munching Hall. By the end of the day, the generosity of our Smith community was evident – many pints of blood had been donated, boxes were overflowing with toys, clothing and gift cards were collected, and dozens of festive cards filled with holiday wishes were hand-crafted. Even Victor Mullins, associate dean of the Smith undergraduate program, tapped into his creative side and designed a card with shiny paper, glitter, glue, and lots of attention to detail. “I wish we could see the faces of the elderly when they open up these cards - they are going to be smiling,” said Mullins.

Continuing with the spirit of giving, a Professional Clothing Drive for A Wider Circle, a near-by non-profit dedicated to ending poverty, will continue into the new year. Adult suits, suit separates, dress shirts and blouses, simple dresses and appropriate accessories can be dropped off at 2520G Van Munching Hall. This drive is sponsored by students in the executive MBA program and the Office of Career Services.
