terpAMA Excels at International Collegiate Conference

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business chapter of the American Marketing Association had a successful trip to the AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans in April 2014. terpAMA was named one of the top 25 chapters for the third consecutive year, and the chapter’s Design Fellows program finished third in the conference’s case competition. In addition, Smith junior marketing major Victoria Hogan Edwards was recognized for being one of nine students nationwide to receive the Coca-Cola Global Marketing Internship this summer.

BSE Scholars Raise Money for Charity

College Park, Md. - May 12, 2014 - College Park's Business, Society & the Economy (BSE) Scholars raised $300 for Interfaith Works of Montgomery County, Md. this past weekend! Led by program director, Dr. Mark Wellman, the freshman and sophomore students voted for Interfaith Works to be the  the recipient of all donations collected during the year at various fun, community-building events.

Smith & IBM Host Workshop on Supply Chain Analytics

Supply chain analytics was the theme of the Fourth Annual Business Analytics Workshop, held in College Park, Md., on Friday, May 2, 2014. Co-sponsored by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and IBM, the day-long workshop consisted of topics ranging from cyber supply chain risk management to disaster response planning and logistics.

Smith Students Join Buffett, Gates on Fox Business

Finance students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business shared a virtual platform on May 5, 2014, with two of the most successful individuals in business. The setting was Omaha, Neb., where Fox Business Network conducted an hourlong Warren Buffett interview to culminate its coverage of the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting. Microsoft cofounder and Berkshire shareholder Bill Gates joined the conversation in the studio, while about 35 Smith undergraduates participated remotely from a University of Maryland classroom.

Schoolchildren Visit Smith for Career Day

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The University of Maryland had a younger look on May 2, 2014, when nearly 200 fourth- and fifth-graders visited the Smith School of Business for Career Day. The children, from Broad Acres Elementary School in nearby Silver Spring, Md., met a sportswriter, astronomer, 3D animator, police officer and many other professionals. 

Student teams Show UMD How They ‘Do Good’ at Do Good Challenge Finals

Riggs Alumni Center was full of passion and energy at the third annual Do Good Challenge. Students Helping Honduras and justlikeyou.org were the two winners of the night, each winning $6,000. Students Helping Honduras also won the Audience Choice Award, a $2,500 text-to-vote prize sponsored by the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Both Students Helping Honduras and justlikeyou.org are led by undergraduates at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
