High school students discovered the power of the human mind to create value through enterprise and markets during an immersion experience July 27-31, 2015, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Smith Undergrads Take 2nd Place in NABA Case Study Competition

A team of accounting students from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business took home second place and $300 each in the student case study competition at National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) National Convention & Expo, held in Las Vegas, June 10-13, 2015. This is the third year in a row Smith Terps have taken home an award. The past two years, they won the competition.

Summer Internship Program – Australia 2015

While interning “Down Under” in Melbourne, Australia, Sam Haugrud, a senior marketing major at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, celebrated the 4th of July with workplace mentors at NEAS. He is shown in this picture taking time away from his IT-based project work for NEAS to enjoy some all-American sweets like Milk Duds, Hershey Kisses and marshmallows. NEAS is a global leader in quality assurance for the English language teaching (ELT) sector. Haugrud's eight-week position there is part of Smith’s for-credit global summer internship program.

Smith Undergrads Spend Summer in Australia

Fourteen undergraduate students are in Australia this summer as part of a 10-week program led by Mary Harms, associate clinical professor of marketing.  The first two weeks were spent in Melbourne, where the students earned three credits for an upper-level BMGT marketing course. Afterwards, Smith students began working at internships in and around Sydney.

Creating Solutions in a Zombie Apocalypse

Improvisation and contingency planning are fundamental to business survival because challenges can appear at any turn ­— like in a zombie apocalypse, Smith School professor Oliver Schlake says.   The Smith Student Association field-tested the concept in spring 2015. With Schlake advising, the walking dead invaded the group’s second annual outdoor adventure team building and networking event at Little Bennett Campground near Washington, D.C.

Smith Alumni Enjoy Private Event at Maryland Science Center

On Saturday, June 6, 2015, alumni of the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business enjoyed an exclusive evening event at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore, Md. Alumni and their families were able to experience interactive stations without the typical crowds during normal operating hours. Attendees visited the many exhibits the Maryland Science Center has to offer, such as Dinosaur Mysteries, Newton’s Alley, Life Beyond Earth, and Power Up. Three planetarium shows were also shown focusing on space. Special thanks go out to the event host committee:

Smith Undergrads’ ‘Woodstock for Capitalists’ Experience includes ‘Buffett v. Mayweather’ This year’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., annual shareholder meeting coincided with the conglomerate’s 50-year anniversary under Chairman Warren Buffett  – and the Floyd Mayweather- Manny Pacquiao boxing showdown.
