What does the Smith journey entail? During their freshman year, Smith students begin to build their personal brand through the SmithStart program. Sophomores dedicate their second year to pioneering their path to success by focusing on an overall academic and career strategy. Junior year focuses on students taking command of their careers to ensure that they are well positioned for their professional journey. Finally, as a senior with an arsenal of tools, knowledge and networks, Smith students are able to embrace their experience and celebrate their success.

Smith Students Attend Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder's Meeting

Ten undergraduates and three professors cleared their busy springtime schedules to travel to Omaha, Nebraska, last weekend to attend the 2017 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder's meeting and listen to Warren Buffett, also known as the “Oracle of Omaha.” The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business Finance professors David Kass, Elinda Kiss and Julie Pavlovsky led the group for the 3-day excursion.

Smith Hosts 14th Annual Wikler Finance Case Competition

The prestigious Joseph Wikler Memorial Finance Case Competition continued for the fourteenth year on April 28, 2017, with a solid participation of finance students and what Finance Fellows Faculty Champion and Professor Sue White called the most challenging case yet.

Smith Honors Best and Brightest Undergrads

Seventeen years ago, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business began hosting an Undergraduate Senior Awards Dinner to recognize a select group of students. They are the students, says Victor Mullins, associate dean of Undergraduate Studies, who have “successfully navigated the Smith Journey and who have inspired and positively impacted everyone here at the Smith School.” The 2017 event took place on May 4.

Graduating Seniors Honor Smith Undergraduate Faculty

During the past year, the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) collected nominations from graduating seniors at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business for the 2017’s Faculty Member of Distinction Award. Victor Mullins, associate dean of undergraduate studies, attended the 17th Annual Undergraduate Senior Awards Dinner on May 4, saying, “I am elated to acknowledge these exceptional undergraduate professors on behalf of the Senior Class of 2017.”

Smith Undergrads Start Businesses, Earn Money in New Course

College costs money, but entrepreneurship students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business have flipped the script. As part of Business Management 461, an undergraduate elective, classmates form teams and start real-world companies that earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Hospitality Business Fellows Take “Hard Hat” Tour of The Hotel at the University of Maryland

Undergraduate students in the Hospitality Business Fellows program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business were treated to a “hard hat” tour of The Hotel at the University of Maryland on April 28, 2017. Dressed in hard hats and reflective vests, the students were honored to be the first group to tour the new hotel. 

Smith Commencement is May 22

Join the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business on Monday, May 22, 2017, as we celebrate the accomplishments of more than 1,000 business graduates at two commencement ceremonies. The ceremonies will take place at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Md. Tickets are not required for the Smith School ceremonies but please note that tickets are required for the campus-wide ceremony on Sunday, May 21.
