When Maryland Smith’s College Park Scholars work with corporations, exciting things can happen. This spring semester – and for the third consecutive year – 12 Smith freshmen and 17 sophomores from the Business, Society and the Economy living-learning program assisted Fox Sports University in marketing its NASCAR and iRacing properties.

These new and innovative virtual case competitions allow Maryland Smith undergraduate majors and minors to solve a real global business issue with a focus on business resilience. During these 4-5 day IB agility labs, students will benefit from exposure to an international company, work on teams with business students around the world, and gain hands-on case experience to build their resumes. Each IB agility lab will focus on one functional area of business and will include an optional virtual cultural activity.

Three Smith Grads to Receive Do Good Medallion
As Jason Malkofsky-Berger, Elana Sichel and Jonathan Taylor graduate this week from Robert H. Smith School of Business, they’ll celebrate another prestigious accomplishment as well – being honored with a 2021 Do Good Medallion. They are among the 40 Class of 2021 graduates to receive the medallion from the University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute.
Undergrads Excel in ‘Renewable Energy’ Datathon
Industry Experts Help Coach, Evaluate Maryland Smith Students Through 2-Week Analytics Competition A team of Maryland Smith undergraduates from an "Introduction to Optimization" class earned first place in the annual Datathon organized by the Smith Analytics Consortium (SAC) with support from Deloitte. The competition, which concluded on April 30, 2021, was virtual and consisted of 12 student teams representing undergraduate, MBA, and MS (marketing analytics and information systems) programs.
Traveling Virtually, As Global Consulting Fellows
Students in the Robert H. Smith School of Business's Global Consulting Fellows program "traveled" virtually to Italy recently to connect with their corporate clients – Garmont, a recreational footwear company; D.B. Group, a freight forwarding company, and Fantic Motor, a motorcycle, e-bike and e-scooter company.
Senbet Fund Outperforms in Volatile Year
In a year like no other for the markets, a team of Maryland Smith undergraduates showed that they can succeed no matter what the circumstances. Over a year, beginning in April 2020, 10 undergraduate students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business led the Lemma Senbet Fund to outperform the S&P 500 by 12%, growing it to just above $1.5 million.
Maryland Smith’s Rachel Yu Named Among “Undergraduate Researchers of the Year”
Maryland Smith’s Rachel Yu ’21, a graduating senior majoring in information systems and government and politics, was selected as one of the University of Maryland’s “Undergraduate Researchers of the Year” for 2021.Yu was honored with a $1,000 award and a plaque from the Maryland Center for Undergraduate Research and the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
