We asked students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business what songs they like to listen to when they study for exams. Smith & IBM Host Workshop on Supply Chain Analytics

Supply chain analytics was the theme of the Fourth Annual Business Analytics Workshop, held in College Park, Md., on Friday, May 2, 2014. Co-sponsored by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and IBM, the day-long workshop consisted of topics ranging from cyber supply chain risk management to disaster response planning and logistics.

Smith Students Join Buffett, Gates on Fox Business

Finance students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business shared a virtual platform on May 5, 2014, with two of the most successful individuals in business. The setting was Omaha, Neb., where Fox Business Network conducted an hourlong Warren Buffett interview to culminate its coverage of the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting. Microsoft cofounder and Berkshire shareholder Bill Gates joined the conversation in the studio, while about 35 Smith undergraduates participated remotely from a University of Maryland classroom.

Smith Hosts 21st Annual Bradford Awards Banquet

On Friday, April 25, 2014, Smith’s Black MBA Association and Latin American MBA Student Association (LAMBASA) co-hosted the 21st Annual William D. Bradford Awards Banquet in the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center. The dinner and reception has now become an annual tradition at Smith, providing an opportunity to bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate partners for celebration of diversity in the Smith community. 

Smith to Tailor Three Ceremonies for Graduates

Facebook voters will select best-decorated caps Decorated mortarboards and keynote remarks from a Wall Street veteran will highlight the Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate and PhD commencement on May 23, 2014, while MBA and other graduate students celebrate one day earlier in separate ceremonies. Hosting three commencements instead of one, the norm in previous years, will allow the school to shorten each ceremony and create a more intimate atmosphere for each group.

100+ Smith Students Study Abroad During Spring Break

For spring break (March 2014), 156 MBA and undergraduate students traveled to Brazil, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, and the United Arab Emirates for a variety of study abroad experiences offered by the Office of Global Initiatives at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Nearly 70 MBA students studied abroad in Europe and Latin America while nearly 90 undergraduates participated in courses in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. App-etite for Innovation

It was a sultry summer evening in New York City. Mike Cerrone ’06  was out for dinner with fellow Terps John Williams ’02, John Brennan (Computer Science ‘06) and friend Warner Siebert in the Village. The restaurant’s wait list was long, the bar was full, and when Brennan asked the host to text him when their table was ready so the group could go get a beer elsewhere, he received a flat ‘no.’ As the group whiled away their time on the hot sidewalk, conversation turned to the annoyance of waiting for a seat at a restaurant.

More than 300 Smith Students Participate in Latin America Consulting Opportunities

Pratik Dixit BS ’13 (finance, information systems) could have chosen a glamorous study-abroad locale such as Amsterdam, Dubai or Paris. Instead, he jumped at a 12-day consulting opportunity in rural Nicaragua. Calling it a “perfect blend of service and business,” Dixit says, “Having this experience on my resume helped me say I’ve done real consulting work. … Companies are very impressed by that.” Deloitte evidently was — Dixit has been working there as a consultant since graduation.

Smith Offers Blended Part-time MBA in DC

Washington, D.C. (April 8, 2014) — Part-time MBA students in the nation’s capital no longer have to choose between online and classroom delivery. Starting in fall 2014, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business will offer the region’s first blended program for working professionals at its Washington campus.
