Netherlands University Honors Maryland Smith's Michel Wedel
The University of Groningen in the Netherlands has awarded Maryland Smith marketing professor Michel Wedel the 2019 Ubbo Emmius Medal for science merits. Wedel, a native of the Netherlands, is recognized for his prolific research, particularly his work on eye tracking and visual marketing. He received the award at a ceremony at the University of Groningen on Monday, Sept. 2.
Huang Receives Award at International Conference on Information Systems
Peng Huang, associate professor in the Decisions, Operations and Information Technologies Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, received the Best Conference Paper Award at the 2018 International Conference on Information Systems for his research paper, “Does One Size Fit All? Theorizing Governance Configurations for Digital Innovation.” His was selected out of more than 1,200 submissions.
Maryland Smith Researchers Receive Journal of Marketing Award
Maryland Smith's Xian Gu, P.K. Kannan and Liye Ma, have been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Marketing Science Institute/H. Paul Root Award for their research paper, "Selling the Premium in Freemium." The award is given to a paper published in the Journal of Marketing that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the practice of marketing in a calendar year.
Maryland Smith’s Kyle Wins Top Economics Award
Albert “Pete” Kyle, the Charles E. Smith Chair Professor of Finance at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, has been named 2018 recipient of the prestigious CME Group-MSRI Prize in Innovative Quantitative Applications for his landmark contributions to the theory of economics and market structure.

Marketing Professor Michel Wedel Earns Career Achievement Award
Michel Wedel, a marketing professor from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, will receive a career achievement award on Feb. 23, 2019, at the American Marketing Association Winter Academic Conference in Austin, Texas. The Irwin/McGraw-Hill Distinguished Marketing Educator Award recognizes sustained contributions to marketing over an extended period of time. Only 35 educators have received the honor since the inaugural presentation in 1985.

Progyan Basu Receives CIBER Award for Teaching Innovation in Global Learning
