INFORMS Honors Maryland Smith Professor Roland Rust
Roland T. Rust, Distinguished University Professor and David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, has won the 2020 Buck Weaver Award from the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science. The award recognizes career achievements in marketing science and is bestowed by the industry’s leading organization for quantitative marketing.
Golden Wins Mathematics Research Award

Each year, the Association for Information Systems honors “truly outstanding” scholars or practitioners who have made “exceptional global contributions” to information systems.

Maryland Smith marketing professor Michel Wedel was recognized for his contributions to the field of marketing with the American Marketing Association’s 2019 Robert J. Lavidge Global Marketing Research Award. The lifetime achievement award was presented during the 2019 AMA Marketing Week and comes on the heels of a string of prestigious awards and honors recognizing Wedel as a prolific researcher and educator.
Netherlands University Honors Maryland Smith's Michel Wedel
The University of Groningen in the Netherlands has awarded Maryland Smith marketing professor Michel Wedel the 2019 Ubbo Emmius Medal for science merits. Wedel, a native of the Netherlands, is recognized for his prolific research, particularly his work on eye tracking and visual marketing. He received the award at a ceremony at the University of Groningen on Monday, Sept. 2.
Huang Receives Award at International Conference on Information Systems
Peng Huang, associate professor in the Decisions, Operations and Information Technologies Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, received the Best Conference Paper Award at the 2018 International Conference on Information Systems for his research paper, “Does One Size Fit All? Theorizing Governance Configurations for Digital Innovation.” His was selected out of more than 1,200 submissions.
Maryland Smith Researchers Receive Journal of Marketing Award
Maryland Smith's Xian Gu, P.K. Kannan and Liye Ma, have been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Marketing Science Institute/H. Paul Root Award for their research paper, "Selling the Premium in Freemium." The award is given to a paper published in the Journal of Marketing that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the practice of marketing in a calendar year.
