Maryland Smith Taps Five Exporters as Case Studies for ‘Maryland Business Adapts’ Campaign

The Center for Global Business (CGB) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business will feature five Maryland-based exporting firms for their best practices in COVID perseverance, via a “Maryland Business Adapts” roundtable event forthcoming this spring.

The selected companies “exemplify businesses with international operations, that — even during an economic standstill — have proven resilient while sharpening their practices in terms of rapid response and international risk management,” says CGB Executive Director Rebecca Bellinger.

“These firms will offer valuable situational insights to other companies that participate in the roundtable and separately to Maryland Smith students and business students nationwide through open-source case studies starting in fall 2021.”

A late-spring 2021 date announcement is forthcoming for the roundtable that will showcase Miltec UV (Stevensville), Get Real Health (Rockville), RIFE International (Rockville), United Source One (Belcamp) and Rovner Products (Timonium). The firms were publicly nominated and selected by a CGB-organized committee including Research Professor and CGB Academic Director Kislaya Prasad; Julian Gaspar, a professor emeritus in international business from Texas A&M University, where he directed the Mays Business School’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER); and Signe Pringle, Maryland Assistant Secretary of Commerce.

“We leveraged social media campaigns and reached out to partner organizations like the Maryland/Washington, D.C. District Export Council, Maryland Department of Commerce and U.S. Commercial Service in Baltimore to elicit the nominations,” Bellinger says. “The committee judged each company independently in terms of COVID strategy and also looked for diversity in ownership, location and industry.”
