Maryland Smith continues to be named among the best top-tier online MBA programs, as ranked by the U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online MBA Programs for 2021, holding the No. 10 spot for the second consecutive year.
The 2021 ranking is based on a range of metrics in five measured categories: student engagement, admissions selectivity, peer reputation, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.
In addition to the overall ranking (in which Smith tied three other schools), U.S. News published “Military” (Smith is ranked at No. 10) and “Specialties” sub-rankings. Under the latter, Maryland Smith ranked high in Marketing (No. 3), Business Analytics (No. 5), Finance (No. 8) and General Management (No. 9).
Among the measured categories, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business ranked especially high in student engagement, says Paulo Prochno, assistant dean for Part-Time MBA and Online Programs. “Our on-campus residencies have long been effective in building and strengthening relationships among students and faculty,” he says. “And as the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed networking events online in the wider business world, our online students have been especially adept for taking advantage of virtual job fairs and mock interviews through our Office of Career Services.”
Regarding the Faculty Credentials and Training category (the extent to which instructors with academic credentials mirror those of instructors for campus-based programs), Prochno adds: “Our Online MBA students experience the same academic rigor, under the same curriculum and faculty, that students experience in the Full-Time MBA program.”
The professors include those recently recognized in the recent American Marketing Association’s 2020 Marketing Research Productivity Lists that include Maryland Smith’s marketing faculty ranked No. 3 for number of articles published in top AMA journals, and No. 6 for research published in all top marketing journals.
