Truth to Power: Managing and Supporting Effective Activism on Campus

Free speech and expression have been an ongoing theme of our series as to navigate how to amplify the needs of marginalized members within the University of Maryland community. For this panel, we will attempt to unpack the ways in which systems often create barriers or challenges for effective activism. We will also discuss how free speech and expression can be used to empower changes in culture and policy over time, sustaining efforts beyond the performative and toward the transformative.

Our esteemed panelists:
Emerson J. Sykes, ACLU Senior Staff Attorney
Caleb Jackson, Campaign Legal Center Legal Counsel
Kalin Schultz, UMD PhD student and Lecturer on Political Culture & Rhetoric
Marsha Guenzler-Stevens, UMD Director of the Stamp Student Union

This panel will be recorded and made accessible approximately one week after the event. Participants will be muted and off video but may use the Q&A feature to engage our panelists.
