Discover What Makes Us Different
The Smith School is the preeminent leader in the most advanced technologies and business concepts that are dominating our world. AI. Quantum Computing. Climate Finance. Business that explores and pioneers the vastness of space.
And yet our relentless drive to navigate the volatility and excitement of these new sectors is nothing new. In fact it is nothing short of table stakes in the long history of what truly sets Smith apart: Our fearlessness in embracing change and its many opportunities. Because where Smith leads, the future follows.
Leading Ahead of the Curve
We love a challenge, and jump at the chance to lead our students and the world into the next phases of business and research. We are set apart in our ability to leverage our diverse lenses and drive both iterative and transformational solutions to change the world.
We’re one of the earliest movers in AI, Climate Finance, Sports Management and the Business of Space. Twenty percent of our tenured faculty are peer ranked in the top 2 percent of researchers in the world. Our forensic accounting students helped solve a homicide.
Time and again we have seen industry turn its head in the direction in which we were already steering. And we will continue to do so because where Smith leads, the future follows.
A History of Future Focus
Our legacy of trailblazing spans the decades of our history. The Dingman-Lamone Center for Entrepreneurship was the first of its kind at a university, and it continues to partner with powerful entrepreneur-driven companies - like Under Armour and HonestTea - to continue Smith’s legacy of entrepreneurship.
We were among the first universities in the country to create student-managed funds to pioneer the hands-on study and understanding of professional asset management. What began as one fund grew into three that now total more than $13.5 million in total assets.

Mayer Fund
In 1993, a $250,000 contribution from our College of Business and Management Foundation established the Mayer Fund. The fund, which has grown to over $9 million through appreciation and outside contributions, is managed by a team consisting of a select group of second-year MBA students at the Smith School.

Senbet Fund
The Senbet Fund was founded in 2006 to give undergraduate students an experiential learning experience in portfolio management and equity analysis. Today, the fund manages more than $3 million.

Global Equity Fund
The Global Equity Fund is managed by 20 students in the school’s Flex MBA, Master of Finance, and Master of Quantitative Finance programs. The Global Equity Fund was established in 2009 and invests primarily in companies outside the United States. The portfolio totals more than $700,000.
Our professors have become world-renowned thought leaders for their models and research - changing how the world understands business from the development of the Kyle Model to pioneering the world of service research to tracking the growth of jobs in AI across America.
When we teamed up with the Clark School of Engineering and the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences to form QUEST 35 years ago, we piloted a truly unique undergraduate experience that has launched the careers of thousands of successful alumni and remained the gold standard for multidisciplinary honors programs.
