University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business to Launch Global Consortium MBA Program

College Park, Md., Beijing, China & New Delhi, India March 14, 2007 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the Management Development Institute (MDI) in India and the University of International Business and Economics in China to jointly deliver a Global Consortium MBA program that will simultaneously draw students from the United States, China and India.

Smith School Dean Howard Frank, Dingman Center Entrepreneur-in-Residence Tien Wong and Smith School Fellow Wei-Wu He were among the business leaders providing insight into doing business in China and India at a Northern Virginia breakfast forum on February 28, 2007. Dean Frank moderated an expert panel that included Wong, Wei-Wu He and three others at Surviving & Thriving in the Flat World: China, India, and You! The event, presented by Potomac Executive Biz and co-sponsored by the Smith School, drew more than 150 area business people.

Smith Hosts 2006 AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium

The Smith School hosted the 2006 AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium, July 12-16. Smith's Roland Rust, David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing, and Gabriel Biehal, associate professor of marketing, were the co-chairs of the prestigious annual marketing event. All Smith marketing PhD students were able to attend event, which enables top doctoral students meet top marketing faculty for four days of academic sessions and social events.

Smith School Hosts Annual Doctoral Awards Banquet

Students, faculty, alumni and guests celebrated the accomplishments of Smiths PhD students at the Doctoral Awards Banquet on May 18, 2006. Dean Howard Frank, in his welcoming address, said that the Smith Schools PhD program was a key component of the schools success as a world-renowned research institution.

PBS CEO Exchange Hosted by Smith School

The Smith School hosted the taping of the national television program CEO Exchange on May 2, 2006. During the taping, five Smith MBA students had the opportunity to ask questions of the shows guests, Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, and Bill Marriott, CEO of Marriott International Inc. There's also a great video tour of the Smith School's Van Munching Hall.

Maryland Day 2006: FEAR THE TURTLES!

The University of Maryland, College Park, celebrated its eighth annual Maryland Day on Saturday, April 29, attracting 75,000 visitors to campus. The Smith School welcomed visitors on McKeldin Mall, with the day's most popular giveaway - a Smith School/Testudo beach ball. In Van Munching Hall, visitors were able to tour the state-of-the-art building and attend an undergraduate program information session.

Smith Students Win University Business Plan Competition

Two current Robert H. Smith School of Business students and a recent alumnus were among the top winners of the sixth annual University of Maryland $50K Business Plan Competition that wrapped up Friday, April 7, 2006.
