Smith Welcomes 24 New Doctoral Students

There are 24 new students hailing from nine countries entering Smith's PhD program this fall. The doctoral program is competitive with the worlds top business school, attracting excellent students in every discipline and averaging approximately 25 applications for every student admitted. Currently, there are 100 students in the program. This year, seven students graduated in May and nine students graduated in August 2007.

"Graduates of the Smith School doctoral program are first-class researchers, but they also have a keen understanding for and appreciation of the importance of teaching," says Larry Gordon, Ernst & Young Alumni Professor of Managerial Accounting and director of the PhD Program. "They understand that their role is to both expand the knowledge base and communicate that knowledge to future business leaders. Smith School PhD students are in demand and upon graduation are offered faculty positions at top business schools around the world."
