Local High School Girls Attend Future Women in Business Conference
The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business welcomed 100 young women from nearby high schools in Prince George’s, Montgomery and Howard Counties to the Future Women in Business Conference on October 19, 2013. Hosted by the Smith School Women’s Society and sponsored by PwC, this conference encouraged high school girls to explore an undergraduate degree and future career in business. Guests heard from keynote speaker Melanie Thomas Armstrong, a partner in PwC's Public Sector Practice (PSP), and were encouraged to “Seize Your Future!”

UMD-Smith Leadership Academy Launches Cohort 2
Classes started this week for the second cohort of the UMD-Smith Leadership Academy. However, some thought last Friday’s orientation was an exciting kickoff and served as the unofficial launch of the program.
Freshmen Participate in Leadership Institute
Enthusiastic cheering was a feature of the morning as 398 brand-new freshmen began their Welcome Week at Smith with a Saturday morning Leadership Institute, held at the UMUC Inn and Conference Center. The event set the tone for the challenging, exciting college experience that awaits them. Victor Mullins, associate dean of undergraduate programs, welcomed students and delivered a keynote address. From the beginning of their college experience, he said, students should be thinking about the outcomes they want to achieve.
Top 21 Ways You Know You’re a Student at UMD-Smith
1) You can practice your 5-minute elevator pitch in a single elevator ride in Van Munching Hall. 2) Rudy's Café closing at 2 p.m. on Friday is the worst part of your weekend. 3) You have more group projects due in one semester of b-school than multiple choice exams in all of college. 4) You laugh at your non-Smith friends who have classes on Fridays. 5) You try to sound humble when you tell your friends you’re graduating from one of the best b-schools in the world.

Thirty-eight students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business Executive MBA Cohort 12 gathered at the University of Maryland’s Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center on July 26, 2013, for a very special occasion: graduation ceremonies. With family, friends, faculty, and staff on hand, the close-knit and supportive culture of our community was clearly on display as Vice Dean Joyce Russell acknowledged the sacrifice on the families and the milestone achievement of the graduates.
