Senior Undergraduates Complete Honors Capstone at Quest Conference

Thirteen teams of undergraduate QUEST honors students presented the results of their capstone projects to an audience of hundreds at the annual QUEST Conference on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at the Riggs Alumni Center. Dressed in business professional attire, and with their presentations memorized, the students were highly polished. Each session was timed and carefully orchestrated to deliver maximum impact – it was clear they had been preparing for this moment for some time.

Smith Grad Students Participate in Case Competition

Students in the five specialty master's programs at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in Smith’s first MS Case Competition on Nov. 14, 2014. Cross-functional teams were formed of 4 to 5 graduate students studying in the following programs: Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Finance, Master of Science in Information Systems, Master of Science in Marketing Analytics, and Master of Science in Supply Chain.

Smith sophomores expand their global mindset through first-ever colloquium course

“You don’t need to leave the United States to develop a global mindset,” said sophomore supply chain management and international business major Stefanie Kilyk after attending Smith’s Global Mindset Colloquium Celebration on Dec. 5, 2014. Kilyk, like many other undergraduates who participated in the pilot semester of the global mindset course, found tremendous benefit in the colloquium developed in collaboration between the Smith Undergraduate Program and Ernst and Young.

University of Maryland Wins APHA Codeathon

Congratulations to the University of Maryland CHIDS-led team that was one of the winners of the second annual American Public Health Association’s Codeathon! The competition took place on November 13-14 during the association’s annual conference in New Orleans.

Students Showcase Nonprofit Consulting Projects

Ten ChangeTheWorld.org student teams showcased their work this semester at the ChangeTheWorld.org Fall 2014 Symposium. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about each project and gave feedback to the presenters. Attendees included fellow and prospective student consultants, ChangeTheWorld mentors and clients and Smith School staff.   

Smith Center Launches Living Lab Portal

Today, the Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business officially launched the Living Lab Portal. This online platform is designed to connect UMD students with experiential learning projects focused on improving the UMD campus and local community.

Local High Schoolers Attend Future Women in Business Conference

Women currently fill less than 17 percent of executive roles -- a number the Smith School is looking to change, starting with young women in high school. On Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, the Office of Undergraduate Programs and Smith School Women’s Society at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted the Second Annual Future Women in Business Conference.

Each year, undergraduate students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business travel to New York City to explore potential careers and visit with UMD-Smith alumni. 

Smith Undergrads Experience Barron’s Roundtable

For the past six years, undergraduate students from adjunct professor Joe Rinaldi’s Futures, Options and Derivatives class at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business have attended the Barron’s Roundtable to meet some of the top investors in the country.  This year, four students, led by Rinaldi, attended the conference titled “The Art Of Successful Investing” on Oct. 22, 2014 at the Metropolitan Club in New York.
