The Smith School welcomes hundreds of new faces this fall -- all ready to start an exciting new school year at the University of Maryland. MBA students and MS students were the first to arrive at Van Munching Hall in mid-August for orientations that included special speakers and team-building activities. For four years now, Ernst & Young has hosted the Freshmen Fellows Orientation at Smith, welcoming bright-eyed, eager students to the top-ranked business school. Smith Undergrads Participate in Innovation Immersion Experienc
In May 2012, 30 business and engineering students from the Hinman CEOs entrepreneurship program and the College Park Scholars program at the University of Maryland traveled to Silicon Valley to experience firsthand the area’s culture of innovation. Over the course of five days the students visited 16 companies ranging from recently founded startups to mature companies such as Google and Cisco. BSE Scholars Participate in 17th Annual Service Day
With classes looming only days away, the College Park Scholars at the University of Maryland piled onto buses and headed out into the community to participate in the program’s 17th Annual Service Day on Aug. 27, 2012. Scholars from the Business, Society and Economics program headed to Silver Spring, Md., to donate their time to a local homeless shelter.

Smith No. 23 in Academic Ranking of World Universities
The University of Maryland and the Robert H. Smith School of Business are ranked No. 23 in the world for academic and research performance in business/economics in the 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities, published by the Center for World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China on August 15.

Student Participates in 4k for Cancer
While many students spend their summers as interns in their field of interest, Chelsea DeBernardis decided to spend hers biking —across the United States. A junior at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, she is participating in the 4k for Cancer bike ride, during which she’ll spend 70 days riding more than 4,000 miles from Baltimore, Md., to Seattle, Wash.
