On Dec. 7, 2017, scores of students, faculty and staff at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business joined the building-wide Smith Holiday Drive by supporting the Red Cross’s Blood Drive, donating toys for the District Alliance for Safe Housing and by crafting cheerful greeting cards to be given to elderly residents in a local assisted living facility.

Smith School of Business’s Global Consulting Fellows Program (GCF) enjoyed an evening featuring an alumni panel discussion, program reflections, networking, and good food, Nov. 7, 2017, at the University of Maryland Golf Course Clubhouse.

Victor Mullins, associate dean of the undergraduate program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business stays connected with Smith students – while they are undergraduates and after they have earned a degree and successfully completed the four-year SMITH JOURNEY. Dean Mullins recently asked Allison Hishmeh '16 to discuss how she navigated the SMITH JOURNEY and how it helped her after she graduated in May 2016 with a degree in marketing and a minor in technology entrepreneurship.

Students, faculty and staff throughout the Robert H. Smith School of Business and across the University of Maryland celebrated International Education Week, Nov. 13-17, 2017. The Smith School hosted a range of events – from an alumni panel on global competencies in the workplace to an international dance workshop – to celebrate the global mindset of its students, faculty and staff.

Thought leaders from the University of Maryland, IBM and the federal government joined on Nov. 17, 2017, at the Robert H. Smith School of Business to provide perspectives on the application of advanced analytics to behavioral healthcare challenges at the Sixth Annual Smith School and IBM Business Analytics Workshop, “Leveraging the Power of Analytics for Behavioral Health.”

On Nov. 15, 2017, students, faculty, staff, and alumni celebrated Smith Day, a new tradition that celebrates the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff joined the inaugural celebration in Van Munching Hall and at campuses in Shady Grove and Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C. Nearly 300 alumni attended Smith Day events at nine locations around the world, including China and the Philippines.

For winter commencement, tickets are not required for the Smith School ceremony or the campus-wide ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland (UMD) joined former Ambassador to Australia and UMD alumnus John Berry for a luncheon conversation about how diplomacy fosters U.S. business overseas with a particular focus on Australia. The event, which took place on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, kicked off International Education Week, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education to celebrate international education and exchange in the U.S.
