Freshman Noah Alviti Receives United Way's Hometown Hero Award

Victor Mullins, associate dean of the undergraduate program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, was recently informed by the United Way of Western Connecticut that Noah Alviti, a freshman finance major, was honored with the 2017 Hometown Hero Award by the United Way of Western Connecticut. He is the youngest recipient to ever be awarded this honor in an adult category.

Victor Mullins, associate dean of the undergraduate program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, stays connected with Smith students – while they are undergraduates and after they have earned a degree and successfully completed the four-year Smith journey. Smith School of Business, recently interviewed Kyle Brown '18 to discuss his involvement with Accounting Teaching Scholars and how it is part of his Smith journey. Kyle is majoring in accounting and finance and expects to graduate in May. Successful navigation of the Smith journey requires involvement with colleagues, professors, professionals, clubs and organizations here at the Smith School, across campus and in the outside “real” world of business.

Listening Beautifully in Cape Town, South Africa

Each year, the Center for Global Business at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business offers 20 students the opportunity to study Social Innovation in the Context of Contemporary South Africa. Malik Sulieman, a senior finance major, reflects on his experience alongside the remaining students who were divided into four working groups. Upon graduation, Malik will be working as a Strategy and Operations Business Analyst with Deloitte Consulting. Please enjoy the 2018 student reflections.

Fishlinger Family Lecture Series Features Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Feb. 7

The University of Maryland invites students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends to join us on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, for the Fishlinger Family Lecture Series with Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean of leadership programs and the Lester Crown Professor in the Practice of Management at the Yale School of Management. His talk is titled The Hero's Farewell: Courage, Character, and Business Ethics in the Trump Era. The lecture will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Edward St. John Building, Room 1224, and will conclude with a 20-minute Q&A period.
