Maryland Smith To Host ‘Being Black’ Speaker Series
The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland will celebrate Black History Month 2019 with a series of events featuring African American business leaders and entrepreneurs. Each week in February, Victor Mullins, Maryland Smith’s associate dean of undergraduate programs and Chief Diversity Officer, will sit down with featured guests to talk about their career paths, the challenges they’ve faced and their advice on making it in the business world.
Longbrake Pledges $1 Million to Maryland Smith
Educator, philanthropist and retired bank executive William Longbrake, DBA ’76, has pledged $1 million to support the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The unrestricted gift will provide flexibility to the school, where Longbrake serves as Executive-in-Residence and a member of the Board of Advisors.

Maryland Smith Online MBA No. 8 in U.S. News & World Report Ranking
Maryland Smith has advanced in the top 10 of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online MBA Programs. The new, No. 8 ranking for 2019 is up from No. 9 last year and places Maryland Smith sixth among public schools. It further “reaffirms the program’s reputation, especially in terms of student engagement” – one of five ranking methodology subcategories where Smith has excelled, says Assistant Dean of Online Programs Judy Frels at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Maryland Smith Students to Host Winterfest Bazaar Dec. 8 at Shady Grove
Maryland Smith students in the Business Management class at the Universities of Shady Grove are staging a Winter Bazaar Crafts Fair from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Building II, Rockville. The public is invited to participate in winter-themed activities and purchase unique products from local craft creators and businesses. Participants can get their gifts wrapped and decorate holiday cards, Santa hats, stockings and dreidels. The event also includes a prize raffle and kids can take photos with Santa.

Terps worldwide showed why they are #UMDSmithProud during the second annual Smith Day on Nov. 14, 2018. Groups gathered at four regional campuses of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business to celebrate. Additional alumni gatherings took place around the United States and internationally in London and Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, China.
