The Center for Global Business organized a virtual site with the Maryland Port Administration for fifteen Maryland Smith students as part of the first International Business (IB) Trek in Maryland on Friday, March 26, 2021. The IB Trek in Maryland provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate Maryland Smith students to learn from Maryland-headquartered companies about how they do business across borders, their industry and business culture, and all while highlighting international business right here in Maryland.

How can we close the global economic gender gap and support women in the workforce?During Thursday’s Women Know Global virtual event hosted by the Center for Global Business (CGB) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, four female business, development and research leaders offered insights on how to position women for success in the global economy.

The Center for Global Business partnered with the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, the College of Business at Florida International University, and Austral Education Group to organize and offer the first Ace the Case Global Business Challenge from February 19 through March 5, 2021.

Dov Moran, the Israeli inventor, entrepreneur and investor who is best known as the inventor of the USB memory stick, sees a bright future. Speaking recently to Maryland Smith MBA students in the Managing Global Risks and Opportunities course, he discussed his own career-launching his first company, M-Systems, in 1989, seeing it go public in 1993 and be acquired in 2006. And he discussed his current work, running Grove Ventures, an early-stage investment fund that invests in promising new tech companies.

The Center for Global Business (CGB) hosted the third installment of a new series of webinars by the MAPIT Alliance focused on risk when entering international markets. In the webinar “Evaluating Foreign Business Partners,” experts shared helpful tips and best practices on how to evaluate potential partners for your international operations, including how to manage risk and conduct background checks on companies you are considering doing business with abroad.

The Center for Global Business (CGB) presented the second installment of a new series of webinars by the MAPIT Alliance focused on risk when entering international markets. In the webinar, “Choosing and Entering Foreign Markets,” experts shared helpful tips and best practices about how to make informed, strategic decisions and limit risk when considering expanding businesses internationally. They also provided guidance around the types of information to consider when researching potential markets.

Travel had ground to a halt and learning was mostly online in 2020’s fall semester, but at Maryland Smith, global educational experiences were forging ahead in new ways.
