Smith School Prof. Curt Grimm Named Top Scholar, Teacher by University of Maryland

College Park, Md. – March 12, 2010 – Curt Grimm, Dean’s Professor of Supply Chain and Strategy at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, was named a 2010-2011 Distinguished Scholar-Teacher by the University of Maryland. Grimm is one of five faculty members recognized campus-wide in the prestigious program, which honors tenured faculty who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments as educators and notable achievements in their respective fields. Each scholar will present a lecture during the school year, and the award carries an honorarium to support professional activities.

Grimm is a prolific researcher and leader in the areas of strategic management and transportation policy. While his research in both of these distinct fields centers on firm competition, each has its own impressive array of top journals, scholarly reviewers, major conferences and distinguished research awards. In addition to publishing four books and more than 100 articles and paper proceedings, he has won five best paper awards – including awards from the prestigious Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Management.

Grimm is a master teacher who has repeatedly won the Smith School’s top teaching awards. He currently teaches courses on the global economic environment in the MBA core curriculum. He is an active and successful advisor to students, especially doctoral candidates, and stays involved with the student body by overseeing student clubs and meeting with prospective student-athletes and their parents.

Other university faculty members to receive this year’s honor are William Dorland, department of physics; William Fagan, department of biology; Martha Nell Smith, department of English; and Chris Vadala, School of Music.

From 1995-2003 Grimm served as Logistics, Business and Public Policy department chair. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California-Berkeley, with primary focus on industrial organization.
