A select group of high-achievers was offered an exclusive look at life as a Smith Terp during the annual Smith Showcase, Dec. 2, 2017, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The invitation-only event was attended by 40 prospective students from across the U.S. who are being considered for admission to the Smith School’s Full-Time MBA program.

Students, faculty and staff throughout the Robert H. Smith School of Business and across the University of Maryland celebrated International Education Week, Nov. 13-17, 2017. The Smith School hosted a range of events – from an alumni panel on global competencies in the workplace to an international dance workshop – to celebrate the global mindset of its students, faculty and staff.

Thought leaders from the University of Maryland, IBM and the federal government joined on Nov. 17, 2017, at the Robert H. Smith School of Business to provide perspectives on the application of advanced analytics to behavioral healthcare challenges at the Sixth Annual Smith School and IBM Business Analytics Workshop, “Leveraging the Power of Analytics for Behavioral Health.”

On Nov. 15, 2017, students, faculty, staff, and alumni celebrated Smith Day, a new tradition that celebrates the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff joined the inaugural celebration in Van Munching Hall and at campuses in Shady Grove and Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C. Nearly 300 alumni attended Smith Day events at nine locations around the world, including China and the Philippines.

For winter commencement, tickets are not required for the Smith School ceremony or the campus-wide ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Six MBA students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business did summer 2017 internships at Citi in New York City, and all six received full-time job offers at the end of the program. “Citi has a collaborative culture, which is something I find very appealing,” said Joseph Caraccio, a U.S. Army veteran who was part of the Smith School group. “It was something that attracted me to Smith, so I wanted to work in a company that has that culture as well.”

Nov. 2-3, 2017, nearly 200 students from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business traveled to New York City for the annual “Smith in the City” trip. The trek featured visits to about three dozen companies and an alumni networking event, where students were able to connect with about 130 alumni. Terps Take Manhattan
