The prestigious Joseph Wikler Memorial Finance Case Competition continued for the fourteenth year on April 28, 2017, with a solid participation of finance students and what Finance Fellows Faculty Champion and Professor Sue White called the most challenging case yet.

Finance Undergrads Compete in Annual Wikler Case Competition

Five teams of undergraduate finance students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in the 12th Annual Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition on Friday, April 24, 2015. Students presented their solutions on a Reliance Communications case, a company overloaded with debt that needed to find financing to continue operations. This year, the competition was sponsored by Madeline Wikler, continuing the tradition started by her late husband Joe Wikler over a decade ago.

The fourth annual Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition was held on Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Six teams of four to five undergraduate students taking BMGT 440 participated in the competition. This year's winners are Shane Blackmon, Sean DiBlasi, Matthew Karp, and Noah Needleman, receiving $1,000 each.

Managing Money Comes Easy to Finance Case Competition Winners

Four Smith undergrads had some extra spending money this summer, compliments of the Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition, held in April. Nathaniel Zola, Michelle Donnelly, Julianne Kortz, and Zach Barratt each received $1,000 in prize money by earning first place in the competition, which was organized by Smith's finance department.

Undergraduates Excel in Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition

On April 30, 2004, five select finance student teams participated in the first Joseph M. Wikler Finance Case Competition. The case program is sponsored by Joseph Wikler, who is a director of Oppenheimer Funds and a consultant for T. Rowe Price Small-Cap Value Fund. He also serves as a director for a number of other private and non-profit organizations. Wikler has been professionally associated with Professor Lemma Senbet, chair of Smith's finance department, since their days as directors of Fortis Funds, which was acquired by Hartford Life.
