An integral part of the College Park Scholars Business, Society & the Economy program (BSE) is an emphasis on real-world immersion experiences. BSE students learn through high impact experiential learning opportunities such as the Silicon Valley immersion experience.

Smith Freshmen Attend Day of Service

More than 70 freshmen in the College Park Scholars’ Business, Society & the Economy program (BSE) began their college life by completing a day of community service. On Friday, August 28, one day after having moved onto campus, the BSE students fanned out to several sites across Montgomery County dedicated to helping the homeless.

BSE Students Participate in 19th Annual Service Day

Freshmen in the College Park Scholars’ Business Society & the Economy program (BSE) spent their first full day on campus helping those less fortunate. More than 80 BSE students spent the morning hours of Aug. 28 painting, cooking, landscaping, organizing and sorting, and/or serving a meal as part of the 19th Annual College Park Scholars Service Day. 

Student Scholars Present at Showcase

Undergraduate students in the College Park Scholars Business, Society and the Economy (BSE) program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business joined almost 500 fellow Scholars at the 18th Annual Academic Showcase, May 9, 2014.

BSE Scholars Raise Money for Charity

College Park, Md. - May 12, 2014 - College Park's Business, Society & the Economy (BSE) Scholars raised $300 for Interfaith Works of Montgomery County, Md. this past weekend! Led by program director, Dr. Mark Wellman, the freshman and sophomore students voted for Interfaith Works to be the  the recipient of all donations collected during the year at various fun, community-building events.

Freshmen Present Plans to Corporate Sponsors at 7th Annual Strategy Board Competition

Showcasing their business savvy for more than a dozen high-powered companies, 74 freshman College Park Scholars (CPS) students studied and made strategic recommendations for real-world companies. Each team illustrated its recommended strategy on a display board, which was evaluated by a team of judges, including a representative from the company. The Ryan Homes team won the 7th Annual Strategy Board Competition, held on Dec. 9, 2004 at the Smith School. Team members include freshmen Clara Abdurazak, Joe Green, Sohail Itani, Zachary Mellman, and Surya Shivakumar.

Strategy Board Competition Highlights

Seventy freshman College Park Scholars (CPS) students competed in the fifth annual Strategy Board Competition, showcasing their business savvy for more than a dozen high-powered companies. In the competition, held on Dec. 12, 2002, four- or five-member teams study, and make strategic recommendations for, real-world companies. Each team illustrates its recommended strategy on a display board, which is evaluated by a team of three judges, including a representative of the company.
