Business leader, Navy veteran and Smith School benefactor Leo Van Munching Jr. ’50 died on Feb. 14, 2016, at his home in Darien, Conn. He was 89. Van Munching Hall, home to the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the School of Public Policy, bears his name.

Smith School of Business with tales of his life experiences. From his first entrepreneurial venture, to his most memorable sale, to his an overhaul of the worst branch at Xerox, to what he learned from a terrible accident, McDermott had his audience on the edge if their seats.

The Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) hosted a Chinese New Year celebration in Van Munching Hall on Friday, February 5, 2016. More than 140 specialty masters students, staff, and faculty at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business attended to enjoy the authentic Chinese food and celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Monkey.

On February 5, 2016, student club officers of the Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) and affiliated clubs participated in a day-long LeaderShape Catalyst session at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. LeaderShape is a national organization specializing in higher education leadership development programs.

A team of students from the Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business won the first prize award of $2,500 at the American Public Health Association’s 2015 Codeathon in Chicago.

Food trucks will visit the Robert H. Smith School of Business this fall semester on the following Thursdays: September 10 September 24 October 15 October 29 November 12 The participating food trucks vary by week and will include:

Rogers, Jr., described by Black Enterprise as “one of the most powerful” African Americans on Wall Street, is the featured guest for the second Diversity Fireside Chat presented by the University of Maryland’s Office of Community Engagement and Robert H. Smith School of Business. The event is from 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 in the Tyser Auditorium, Van Munching Hall.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland announced today a gift of $10 million from the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation to support MBA scholarships, undergraduate leadership programs and facility enhancements for the Robert H. Smith School of Business. The gift will also continue to fund the school's Center for Social Value Creation.
