Smith School Leads Conversation on Global Education with Ivy League Partners
On June 12-13, 2014, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted the first in-person meeting of the Executive Roundtable on business school global initiatives, a by-invitation-only group of heads of international education offices at top-tiered business schools. The group shared best practices in global business education, examined assessment tools typically used to measure global competencies, and envisioned the “next generation” of global programs.
EMBA Cohort 13 Graduates
On July 24, 2014, 41 executives from EMBA Cohort 13 graduated from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, in a ceremony attended by more than 300 family, friends and faculty and staff of the Smith School at the university’s Riggs Alumni Center.
Smith Co-Hosting Tata Dialogue on Innovation
The Tata group is partnering with the Robert H. Smith School of Business for a July 10 “Tata Dialogue on Innovation” at New York City’s The Pierre hotel. Smith alumni will join the discussion, moderated by CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages Albert Carey and featuring Warren Harris, President and COO of Tata Technologies.

Smith to Educate 600 U.S. Customs & Border Protection Leaders
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Starting this summer, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, Office of Executive Programs, will direct the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Leadership Institute. Under the $7.2 million, five-year agreement, Smith will educate up to 120 top-level managers each year for a total enrollment of 600. Courses will encompass strategic thinking, leadership communication, and business management to prepare them for increased levels of responsibility in CBP.

Smith & IBM Host Workshop on Supply Chain Analytics
Supply chain analytics was the theme of the Fourth Annual Business Analytics Workshop, held in College Park, Md., on Friday, May 2, 2014. Co-sponsored by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and IBM, the day-long workshop consisted of topics ranging from cyber supply chain risk management to disaster response planning and logistics.
Smith Students Join Buffett, Gates on Fox Business
Finance students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business shared a virtual platform on May 5, 2014, with two of the most successful individuals in business. The setting was Omaha, Neb., where Fox Business Network conducted an hourlong Warren Buffett interview to culminate its coverage of the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting. Microsoft cofounder and Berkshire shareholder Bill Gates joined the conversation in the studio, while about 35 Smith undergraduates participated remotely from a University of Maryland classroom.
