Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) Wins Campus Award
As Pat Cleveland, Smith School associate dean for undergraduate studies, tells her students, “The world belongs to those who show up.” The members of the Smith Undergraduate Student Association have, in fact, shown up twice. The evening of May 8, on behalf of the organization, SUSA president Marla Weintraub happily accepted the award for “Best Governing Body on Campus,” which the group won once before in 2006.
Robert H. Smith to Speak at Namesake Business School Commencement
College Park, Md. - May 6, 2008 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that alumnus Robert H. Smith, former chairman of Charles E. Smith Cos. and naming donor to the school, will deliver the keynote speech at the May 23 graduation ceremony. The event will be held at 4 p.m. at the Comcast Center on the university's College Park campus.
April 2008: Sustainability Month at Smith
April was recognized as Sustainability Month this year at campuses around the country. The Smith School held a number of events for both the students and community to participate in that focused on sustainability and going green in recognition of the month. The events were focused around not only bringing about awareness of environmental issues to participants they were also designed to show how individuals can build companies around sustainability and the environment.

Allan Edelson 81, director of Deutsche Bank Berkshire Mortgage, Inc., joined in the congratulations and gave his fellow alumni advice on selecting a career and specific steps they could take to be successful in their first job.
Smith Alums Support Ensures Future QUEST Conferences, Programming
A gift from a recent Smith School graduate will ensure the future of the schools Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) Honors Fellows Program annual Innovation and Consulting Conference. QUEST Executive Director J. Gerald Suarez announced the gift at this years conference, held Dec. 6, 2007. The evening event is organized to give students opportunity to present their consulting projects to more than 250 business, nonprofit and government clients; faculty; parents; and peers.
Danish Ambassador Speaks to Undergraduates about Denmark in the World
On Nov. 13, 2007, Friis Arne Petersen, Denmark's Ambassador to the United States, gave a lecture at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business to an audience of undergraduate students and faculty members. Petersons lecture, titled Denmark in the World Politics, Economy and Energy, centered around Denmark's relationship with the U.S. and its role in the global community.
Smith Undergrads Put on Strong Showing at Biz Quiz Competition
The Second Annual Nationwide Fisher National Biz Quiz Challenge took place at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business from October 25-27, 2007 and Smith was well represented. A group of Smith undergraduate students - senior Leslie Lin, and juniors Eric Liang and Ademola Sadik - traveled to Columbus for the competition and advanced to the semifinals, placing fourth overall out of 18 schools.
Mattel Senior VP Speaks to Smith Undergraduates About Living Brands
Smith undergraduate students were treated to a presentation by Richard Dickson -- Mattel Brands senior vice president of marketing, media and entertainment, worldwide -- on Oct. 23, 2007 in Van Munching Hall. Dickson graduated from Maryland with a degree in consumer economics and was excited to be back. Prior to joining Mattel, Dickson spent over 15 years in the fashion and beauty industry working with top names in retail and design at Bloomingdales and Este Lauder.
