Maryland Day celebrates its thirteenth anniversary April 30 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Now one of the top annual events in the state of Maryland, the University of Maryland welcomes the entire Washington, D.C. region to have fun, learn and explore over Maryland's 1,250 acre campus.

Smith Undergrad Helps Feed Homeless

It was while writing a paper for his freshman English 101 class that Evan Ponchick, a College Park Scholars Business, Society, and the Economy alumnus, came up with an initiative that would help feed the homeless and save the university money. Now a junior, Ponchick has watched his vision turn into a reality.

Smith Undergrads Excel in Wake Forest’s Undergraduate Case Challenge

A team of undergraduate students from Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland participated in the 21st Wake Forest Marketing Summit - Undergraduate Case Challenge, sponsored by VF Corporation. The competition was held at Wake Forest University on February 3, 2011 and the other schools participating were Emory University, Northeastern University, Brigham Young University, and University of Pennsylvania. The case focused on developing strategies to use the digital ecosystem to drive sales and build loyalty for the VF Corporation's Nautica® brand.

Supply Chain Fellows, Thai Students Visit Port of Baltimore

Visiting Thai students and students in the Supply Chain Fellows program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business took a trip to Baltimore to learn about the city’s shipping port and compare it to other ports in the country and the world.

Smith Holds Undergraduate Networking Night

The Office of Undergraduate Studies at University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted an Undergraduate Networking Night on October 12, 2010. The event was organized to put the undergraduate students in touch with employers from top recruiting companies and alumni. Distinguished alumni and speakers from many top companies – Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Capital One, McKinsey, UBS, Constellation Energy, Northwest Mutual, Lockheed Martin, and First Annapolis – attended the event.

Recent Grad Wins Inaugural Undergraduate Operations Research Prize from INFORMS

In November 2010, the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS) will award its inaugural Undergraduate Operations Research Prize to John Silberholz ’10. For Silberholz, who earned his B.S. degrees in computer science and math summa cum laude, the award is a culmination of the research and professional development relationships he has built with the Robert H. Smith School of Business through his undergraduate career.

Smith School Invites Students to Attend Industry Day

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is hosting its annual Industry">http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/organizations/scms/industryday.html">Industry Day onOctober 15, 2010 in Van Munching Hall from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The daylong event includes several networking events, a career fair and an award ceremony at which Smith students in the Supply Chain Management Society and the Supply Chain Club recognize an influential industry leader as the “Person of the Year.”

Smith School Holds Annual Undergraduate Career Fair

This September, more than 600 undergraduate students and 61 firms packed the Riggs Alumni Center for the 2010 Robert H. Smith School of Business Undergraduate Career Fair. Saad Yaldram ’12 has been preparing for this day for weeks. When he’s not researching firms, he is role playing behavioral and case interviews with classmates. “I want to tone my skills so that I am ready to present myself properly to recruiters,” said Yaldram, who wants to pursue a career in government and intelligence services.

STARS Transfer Night Welcomes Incoming Transfer Students to the Smith School

On Tuesday, Sept. 7, the Smith School STARS program —Smith Talent Acquisition & Referral System— welcomed newly admitted transfer students to a networking reception designed to introduce them to each other and to corporate partners and alumni who recruit Smith school students, giving students a head start on the process of exploring careers and opportunities in business.

2010 Freshman Fellows Orientation

College Park, Md. – Aug. 28, 2010 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted its annual Freshman Fellows Orientation Program, sponsored by Ernst & Young. Staffed by representatives from both the Smith School and Ernst & Young, the day kicked off with group icebreakers. After an introduction and welcome from Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Pat Cleveland, keynote speaker Dan Black, director of Americas campus recruiting for Ernst & Young, took the stage.
