Smith Undergrads Take Top Honors at UConn Case Challenge
For the second year in a row, undergraduates from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business took top honors at the University of Connecticut’s Case Challenge, hosted by Connecticut’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) from October 9-13, 2013 in Storrs, Connecticut. Raaheela Ahmed, a junior finance and economics double major; Ben Hsieh, a junior accounting major; and Ningwei Li, a junior finance, economics, and mathematics triple major; represented Smith at the Case Challenge.

Smith Undergrad Program Ranked #18 By U.S. News
College Park, Md. – September 10, 2013 – The undergraduate business program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business jumped to No. 18 in the nation in the latest edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges,” published today. The Smith School placed 8th among public universities and again ranked highly in a number of business specialty categories.
Freshmen Participate in Leadership Institute
Enthusiastic cheering was a feature of the morning as 398 brand-new freshmen began their Welcome Week at Smith with a Saturday morning Leadership Institute, held at the UMUC Inn and Conference Center. The event set the tone for the challenging, exciting college experience that awaits them. Victor Mullins, associate dean of undergraduate programs, welcomed students and delivered a keynote address. From the beginning of their college experience, he said, students should be thinking about the outcomes they want to achieve.
QUEST welcomes two cohorts of students
Eighty-eight students joined the Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) program this year, kicking off the semester with an orientation to their new program.
More than 100 Smith Students Study Abroad over Summer 2013
This summer 105 students traveled to Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, and Spain for short-term abroad courses offered by the Smith School’s Office of Global Initiatives. More than 80 graduate students participated in three courses while 19 undergraduates traveled to Germany and Italy for a course on entrepreneurship.
