The Global Showcase celebrates global learning by all business students who studied abroad during the 2020 winter break. Student posters will be on display “gallery style” from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Van Munching Hall atrium. Students will present their posters to judges from Noon-2 p.m. The winners of the showcase competition will be awarded $2,500 in global scholarships which will be announced via email on February 14. All are invited — friends, family, faculty, staff and global alumni.

Maryland Smith Recognizes Winter Graduates in Virtual Commencement

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business celebrated its winter graduates in a virtual commencement ceremony on Sunday. During the ceremony, which followed the university’s main commencement event, 203 undergraduate students, 70 MBA students and 339 business master’s students were recognized for the completion of their degrees. Additionally, 47 students celebrated finishing the Online MBA, six the Online Master of Science in Business Administration, and 41 the Executive MBA.

A ‘Framework for Thinking About Problems’

Nicholas Summers learned a great deal at Maryland Smith, and he taught others a thing or two, mostly in the area of applied cloud computing. This month, as Summers prepares to graduate from Maryland Smith’s Business Analytics M.S. program, he’s been reflecting on the most important things he’s learned in his five years at Smith, specifically, lessons about how to self-teach and self-motivate. “[Even] beyond college you will have to continually learn,” he says.

Global Teams Compete in the Accounting and Analytics IB Agility Labs

As part of the #KeepGlobalSmith initiative, the Robert H. Smith School of Business Center for Global Business at the University of Maryland held the Accounting and Analytics/IS International Business (IB) Agility Labs on November 11-13 and November 18-20, respectively. These complete the first half of the six IB Agility Labs that will take place this academic year.

Companies in NYC Host Virtual Visits with Maryland Smith International Business Students

The Center for Global Business at Maryland Smith sponsored fifteen students to participate in the International Business (IB) Trek of Smith in the City on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6, 2020. Hosted and organized by Maryland Smith Undergraduate Student Association and the Office of Career Services, this year’s Smith in the City event was held virtually for Maryland Smith undergraduate students to network with alumni and meet with companies in New York City to learn about business practices in various sectors.

Maryland Smith Terps came together, virtually, this week to celebrate being part of the Smith community during the fourth annual Smith Day.On Thursday, students, faculty, staff and alumni from College Park, Smith’s regional campuses and around the world tuned in virtually for the daylong festivities.

Rachel Levitt, a junior at Maryland Smith, was named 1 of 10 nationwide winners for the Michigan Sport Business Conference BIG Initiative and was recognized for her student leadership and passion for the sports industry.  The contest saw a record number of applicants this year, but Levitt’s accomplishments and her application stood out.
