Russ Lorber, MBA ’02, had always had an entrepreneurial interest, but for many years, he wasn’t sure what to do with it. In 25 years in finance and business operations, he had traveled the world, learning business cultures, supply chains, and sometimes, visiting winemakers. In 2020, he made the leap, ending a two-decade career with W.R. Grace, and launching a startup. That’s how the Baltimore-based Wide Roots wine-importing company was born.

At Maryland Smith, Women’s History Month will be off to a strong start. On March 4, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business will host Women Inspire. Now in its 10th year, the annual event celebrates alumnae leaders in business and encourages attendees to strive to reach their full potential.

Don your chef aprons, grab your whisks and let’s get baking! Join Smith MBA student Tina Elhindi for a virtual live macaron making class! In this fun class, you will learn the fine art to making macarons by Elhindi, a classically French-trained pastry chef who received her pastry diploma from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Come be transported to the patisseries of Paris.
