Medicine has made huge leaps in the past 50 years, to the great benefit of human beings. “The advances in medical technology in the past 50 years supersede any made in the previous two millennia. A hospital today is virtually like a lab at IBM because of all the technology it holds,” said Ritu Agarwal, Dean’s Chair of Information Systems and director of the Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. UMD Health IT Seed Program Invests in Health Transformation with Research Grants

College Park, Md. – June 28, 2011 -- The University of Maryland Center of Excellence in Health IT Research (Center) a multi-campus initiative with collaboration across the College Park and Baltimore campuses, awarded $15,000 in funding to each of two teams working on promising health information technologies as part of the inaugural Health IT Seed Grant Program. The investments demonstrate the University of Maryland’s commitment to advancing innovation and research to accelerate the transformation of the nation’s health care system.
