From Maryland to Medellín: A Journey of Global Leadership and Experiential Learning

Three Smith students joined peers from across the Americas at the 2025 CUIBE Global Summer Leadership Summit in Medellín, Colombia, gaining hands-on experience in global consulting, sustainability strategy and cultural exchange through workshops, field research and project-based learning.

Center for Global Business

The Center for Global Business (CGB) is the home of the Title VI CIBE grant at the University of Maryland and the driver of international business and global mindset education at the Smith School. CGB serves as a national resource for international commerce in the state of Maryland, specifically in regard to training and preparing students, companies, and current and future business leaders to compete successfully in the global market.

The Fall 2025 Sustainability in Business Conference will bring together students, faculty, industry leaders, and mission-driven organizations for discussions on food, fashion, and finance in sustainability. Hosted by Smith’s Center for Social Value Creation.

Smith Students Assess How Deeply Federal Spending Impacts the State of Maryland

A joint report from Maryland’s Comptroller and Smith School researchers reveals $150 billion in recent federal spending in the state. Students, guided by professors Liu Yang, Vojislav Maksimovic and Kislaya Prasad, gained valuable experience in data analysis and government collaboration.

Smith School and Utrecht Students Brew Up International Export Plans for Beer Brands

Students from the Smith School and University of Utrecht collaborated in a course led by Professor Amna Kirmani, developing export plans for RavenBeer and La Trappe while gaining real-world experience in cross-cultural teamwork and international marketing challenges.

This webinar explored how startups can protect their intellectual property when entering international markets, covering trademarks, copyrights, patents, and key global agreements. Attendees learned how to avoid common risks and build a strong IP strategy for global growth.
