Women Executives to Speak at UMD’s Smith School

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 13, 2017) — Two influential women in the finance industry will speak 6 p.m. March 27, 2017, at a women’s conference hosted by the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The Women’s History Month event, “Women, Leadership & the Workplace: A New Playbook for Success,” is part of the NewDay Leadership Forum sponsored by NewDay USA.

Regina LowrieSallie KrawcheckThe speakers, Sallie Krawcheck and Regina Lowrie, will discuss what Krawcheck calls a new playbook for women to take leadership in the corporate boardroom.

Krawcheck, author of the recently published “Own It: The Power of Women at Work,” was a financial executive on Wall Street at a young age. She has served as chairman and CEO of Sanford C. Bernstein, chief financial officer of Citigroup, and wealth management chief of Bank of America. She is also co-founder and CEO of Ellevest, a digital investment platform for women.

Lowrie, the first women chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association, is president and CEO of RML Advisors, a financial service advising and consulting firm. She also serves on the NewDay USA Board of Advisors. Previously she served as CEO of Gateway Funding, a company she founded in 1994. She has also served as president of Vision Mortgage Capital, a division of Continental Bank.

Other topics at the forum will include career strategies, fostering a productive work environment, and what women should know about building long-term financial security. The speakers will also respond to audience questions.

“Both women have risen to the top of a male-dominated industry and have insight on challenges and opportunities facing women in business,” says Smith School professor Rajshree Agarwal, director of the Snider Center.
