Social Innovation Fellows Come Together for Celebration

Social Innovation Fellows Come Together for Celebration

There’s always cause for celebration at the end of semesters, and Maryland Smith’s Social Innovation Fellows (SIF) made the most of theirs.

Students met with Faculty Champion David Kirsch, associate professor of management and organization at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, for an outdoor dinner at a nearby College Park restaurant.

Joined by Nima Farshchi, ’14, MBA ’20, SIF alum and Director of the Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC), newly-accepted and current students, as well as SIF alumni, came together to share stories from their job hunts and real-world work experiences.

Students who just completed the one-year program relished the chance to recount their experiences with SIF’s many consulting projects. Incoming students were welcomed to the program and used the event as an opportunity to learn from their predecessors while gaining valuable networking resources.

Attendees also reflected on the remote learning experience over the last year and appreciated Kirsch and Farshchi’s commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence and providing beneficial learning opportunities for undergraduate students.

"Last night's event was the culmination of all the hard work we'd put into the program. I got to finally meet the people I became so close to, and I had an amazing time while doing so! My thanks to Dr. Kirsch and Steven [Ioannidis, TA for SIF], not only for organizing the event last night but for opening our eyes to the world of social innovation!" said Asjed Tufail, a senior SIF graduate.

Jordan Tisaranni, a Marketing and International Business double major added, “I’m so lucky to have met all of these amazing people! Thank you SIF for making my last year at UMD so special.”

The Social Innovation Fellows program is one of 12 unique programs offered by the Robert H. Smith School of Business allowing the intense study of a specific area of business, ranging from finance and supply chain to strategic design and global consulting.
