McGeady Bushnell and Wing Pokrywka represent the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business among Poets & Quants “Best & Brightest Online MBAs: Class Of 2023.” The pair, according to P&Q, are among 52 students from the “world’s top-ranked programs” who excel in criteria including academic performance, classroom contributions and professional achievements.
P&Q states: “Bushnell has been serving as the Congressional and Legislative Liaison for the U.S. Navy’s Chief of Naval Personnel. Here, he assists in developing policies that support over 450,000 sailors and their families… Pokrywka’s exposure to data-driven decision-making enabled her to hit the ground running when she was hired by Instacart as a senior marketing manager before finishing her final year at the University of Maryland’s Smith School.”
Bushnell told P&Q he chose Smith for pursuing his degree “to earn a STEM-focused business degree that included a synchronist learning environment while still allowing the flexibility to work a demanding job.” Asked ‘What was most surprising about his Smith OMBA experience?’, he replied: “The amount of influence students in this program can have on the Smith School as a whole. Access to the staff, including the Dean, was widely available, which was extremely useful on an academic and professional level.”
Pokrywka told P&Q her Smith experience gave her “a deeper understanding of various business concepts and practices that are relevant to my job responsibilities. Having a solid grasp of finance has enabled me to better understand the financial implications of my marketing decisions and ensure that my campaigns are cost-effective and aligned with overall business objectives. Gaining a deeper understanding of data analytics also helped me make more informed decisions and optimize marketing campaigns and be able to collaborate with data scientists better.”
