The University of Maryland’s (UMD) annual 24-hour fundraising event, Giving Day, invites alumni, staff, faculty, students, parents and friends of the university to raise critical funding to advance the mission of the UMD.
For the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the community contributed over $300,000, a 138% increase over the previous year. A 55% increase in donors and participation from five times as many students as in 2025 contributed to the increase.
Total donors, total gifts, student engagement and total dollars were all up significantly over the 2025 campaign. Smith’s Office of Advancement held a Giving Day event in Van Munching Hall, where students, faculty and staff could spin the prize wheel if they wrote a thank you card to donors, made a gift to a Smith fund or shared a photo on social media in support of Giving Day. Later in the evening, over 40 UMD alumni joined Smith and the Baltimore Terp Network at Union Brewery to watch the men’s basketball team take on the Wisconsin Badgers.
“We encouraged everyone in the Smith community to participate in the Giving Day 2026 campaign. As a result of the community’s enthusiastic engagement, it was a tremendous success,” said Dean Prabhudev Konana.
Other key highlights for the school included the nine match and challenge opportunities supported by 19 members of the Smith community, totalling $87,000. Gifts came in from 24 states as well as Washington, D.C. and abroad.
All 10 of Smith’s Giving Day support areas received gifts and the Center for Social Value Creation and the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets exceeded their challenge goals.
If you did not have a chance to give during the Giving Day campaign, you can still show your support for the Smith School by giving anytime.
