Prominent Biotechnology Investor Joins University of Marylands Business School as Smith Senior Fellow

College Park, Md. November 16, 2006 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced that Wei-Wu He, general partner and co-founder of Emerging Technology Partners LLC (ETP), a Maryland-based venture capital firm focused on investing in the life science industry, has joined the school as a senior Smith fellow. In this role, Dr. He will concentrate on supporting the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.

Wei-Wu has had exceptional success as an entrepreneur and in identifying viable business ideas and opportunities in the United States, and in key developing markets such as China, said Howard Frank, dean of the University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business. He brings a wealth of knowledge that complements the Smith Schools support of entrepreneurship regionally, nationally and internationally. We are pleased to welcome him.

Wei-Wus insight as an accomplished entrepreneur, investor and scientist will be a huge asset to the center. said Asher Epstein, managing director of the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship. We were privileged to have Wei-Wus support as a panelist speaker during this years China Business Plan Competition in Beijing and his increased involvement offers the entrepreneurs served by the Dingman Center tremendous advantages.

Prior to ETP, Dr. He was the founder and president of OriGene Technologies Inc. Dr. He was also one of the first employees of Human Genome Sciences Inc. (NSDQ: HGSI). He has been involved in more than 20 biotech companies throughout his career. Dr. He has been awarded more than 20 U.S. patents and has more than 20 original research publications. Dr. He received his Ph.D. in molecular biology from Baylor College of Medicine and conducted cancer research at the Mayo Clinic and at Massachusetts General Hospital. He received his MBA from the Wharton School.
