Maryland Smith Honors MBAs at Awards Banquet

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business celebrated the accomplishments of full-time MBA students at the annual MBA End-of-Year Banquet on May 19, 2017, at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Students nominate their classmates and professors for the awards and a committee of students, faculty and administrators selects the recipients.

A highlight of the banquet is the “second-year superlative” section of the banquet program, where students have a chance to capture some of the memories, jokes and special characteristics relating to each classmate.

Second-year MBA award recipients:

  • Smith Community Development Award: Laura Russo and Gabrielle Kuey
  • Smith Brand Ambassador Award: Amelia Dougherty and Mohamed Boraie
  • Smith Career Contributor Award: Rachel Goldstein and Emily Robichaud
  • Smith Classroom Contributor Award: Adam Walters and Muhammad Khan
  • Impact Award: Ashish Agarwal and Alexandra Moore
  • Smith M.V.P.: Kevin Hannigan
  • Academic Achievement Award: Shishir Bhargava, Ian Chaplin, Divya (Manu) Gulati, Muhammad Khan, Takeru Miyachi, Adam Walters, and Shengnan Wang

First-year MBA award recipients:

  • Rising Star: Claire Almand, Colin Goddard and Nicholas Ditchey
  • Impact Award: Karolyn Maynard, Porter Brockway and Achal Bhushan
  • Smith M.V.P.: Staci Bank

Faculty & Staff Awards:

  • Most Effective Core Professor: Rachelle Sampson and Charles Olson
  • Most Effective Elective Professor: Wendy Moe and Wilbur Chung
  • Most Engaged Professor: Michael Faulkender and Paulo Prochno
  • S.M.I.T.H. Award: Joseph Bailey
