Gary Swart ’83, CEO of oDesk, made the cover of Inc. magazine in November. Swart and oDesk were featured as part of the magazine’s story on the “demand economy” and entrepreneurs who are providing services and goods to various niche markets.
oDesk, based in Redwood, California, lets companies hire freelancers to meet their needs for everything from marketing and speechwriting to software development and customer services. oDesk vets all contractors who offer services on the site, and customers rate the contractors they’ve used. This makes it easy for corporate clients to choose from the more than 750,000 contractors now listed on the site. The company’s revenue is about $120 million.
