The Center for Global Business Welcomes Incoming Business Exchange Students for Spring 2020

Kara Korab, program manager for the Center for Global Business (CGB) at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, writes about the Smith School’s incoming exchange students.

This semester Maryland Smith welcomes 21 exchange students from 10 of Maryland Smith’s partner universities. These students study here for a semester as their study abroad experience.

Last week, students participated in a series of orientation activities, hosted by the Education Abroad and International Student Services Office, to introduce and welcome them to campus. Throughout their exchange semester, they will take business and non-business courses while exploring the cultural differences between the U.S. and their home country.

“Visiting exchange students are a valuable part of the Smith community,” said Greg Rafal, assistant director of global programs at CGB. “They come to Smith to study in a different cultural context and bring to the classroom a wealth of diverse perspectives on business and culture."

Smith exchange programs are the result of agreements made with top business schools around the world that give undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to enroll in semester-long programs abroad, take a full business course-load in English alongside their host-country counterparts, and earn transfer credit toward their degrees. Participating students gain valuable immersive experiences on both the academic and cultural level. As Smith welcomes exchange students from around the world, Maryland students are also studying abroad at these institutions as part of the mutual exchange. Participating in an exchange program is one of the many ways students can develop their global mindset.
