Location

If you want to connect to the forces that are transforming the way the world does business, the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland is your gateway.

Located in College Park, Md., eight miles from The White House, The Smith School is plugged into a metroplex that is wired to the circuitry of government, corporate and international power.

The region is rich in unparalleled professional opportunity, smart people and jobs, and diverse cultural and recreational resources.

One of 12 colleges and schools at the University of Maryland, The Smith School is a short drive or metro ride to the nerve center of leaders and policymakers who shape the national economy and drive the global marketplace.

Our region is a hub of opportunity for networking, experiential learning, internships and jobs.

It is home to federal agencies, corporate headquarters, world-class think tanks, and national and international nonprofits. It is an engine of innovation and explosive growth in digital technology and biosciences.

And it is a popular center for professional conferences and entrepreneur events.

With 30,000 of our 60,000+ alumni living in the metroplex that includes Baltimore, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., our location gives you easy access to the region's largest alumni network of business leaders.

The D.C. metroplex also is a cultural and recreational mecca.

The nation's capital is endowed with museums, national landmarks, parks, restaurants, shops and professional sports teams. The renaissance city of Baltimore and the beaches of coastal Maryland and Virginia are within easy driving distance. And celebrations like the National Cherry Blossom Festival in April, and Independence Day fireworks on the Mall, are stunning reminders of the region's rich heritage and cultural vibrancy.

Virtual Tour

In 1992 Leo Van Munching, Jr. '50, a Smith School alumnus and president of the company holding the exclusive franchise to import and distribute Heineken and Amstel Light beer donated $5 million toward the construction of the college's new home, Van Munching Hall (VMH). The move from Tydings Hall to the state-of-the-art VMH took place in 1993. In 1999, Van Munching donated $6 million in additional funding to help finance the expansion and renovation of the building.

Since 2002 when the Smith School opened its $38 million, 103,300 square foot South Wing expansion, Van Munching Hall has had one of the most technologically advanced facilities directed at management education in the world. The bar was set even higher with the recently opened North Wing addition in spring 2008.

The $21 million North Wing addition of 38,000 square feet to Van Munching Hall increased the the total space to approximately 238,000 square feet. Outside of Van Munching Hall, the new south campus gateway features gorgeous stonework, a new clock tower, and a beautifully landscaped green space with brick walkways.
