The annual “Diversity at Smith” event was held at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business on Nov. 8, 2008, allowing potential MBA candidates a look inside the Smith MBA experience. The event provided the opportunity for prospective candidates to understand what Smith has to offer through its full-time and part-time MBA programs and the cultural and international diversity the school encompasses.

Smith School Hosts Second Annual Mergers & Acquisitions Competition: Chicago GSB Takes First Prize
The Smith School was proud to host the Second Annual Mergers & Acquisitions Competition on Oct. 16 and 17. The event, organized by Smith’s MBA Finance Association, challenged teams of MBA students from leading business schools to create and deliver M&A pitches to a panel of executive judges. Students from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business won the $5,000 first prize. Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management’s students took the $2,500 second prize, and Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management’s students won the $1,000 third prize.

Smith School Holds 10th Annual MBA Consulting Forum
On October 3, 2008, students from all of Smith’s MBA programs gathered at Van Munching Hall for the Smith Consulting Forum, a full-day event featuring speakers, panels, and networking opportunities. Now in its tenth consecutive year, the forum is a collaborative effort of the MBA Consulting Club, faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate partners. Those who attended were able to enjoy interactive consulting-related activities, with a focus on learning about the consulting profession and making personal connections with professionals in the field.

De Haan discussed his experiences at Philips and provided an overview of the current business climate in Israel.
The Fall Ball: Dancing Days Are Here Again
The Smith School's Fall Ball, one of the year's most highly anticipated events, will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Marriott North Bethesda. Come join Dean Anand and over 300 of your fellow Smith part-time and full-time MBA students, faculty and administration for socializing, dancing - and yes, even some networking. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 8 p.m. A DJ will start spinning tunes around 9 p.m., and the dancing will continue until 11:30 p.m.
