Smith School MBAs Win ACG Cup Case Competition

Another case competition – another honor for University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. This time a team of second-year MBA students participated in the ACG Cup Case Competition and was declared winner, impressing the judges with their analysis of case study and presentation skills, in February 2011.

Smith's Diverse Community Celebrates International Week

The second week of February 2011 was filled with excitement for students in the MBA program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, who held the annual Smith International Week. Students from outside the United States make up 39% of the full-time MBA program and 10% of the part-time MBA program. Drawn from all around the world, students bring their industry expertise and regional perspectives to create a rich and textured learning environment for each other.

Smith Community Celebrates 10th Annual Monte Carlo Night

Decked out in their finest, 700 MBA students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business gathered for the 10th Annual Monte Carlo Night at the Omni Shoreham in D.C. on Feb. 19, 2011 for the school’s largest event, outside of commencement. Prior to Monte Carlo Night, nearly 200 alumni gathered at a special networking reception before heading into the main event.

Smith School MBAs Secure Lockheed Martin Investment in UMD Technology in First Semester of Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship Program

College Park, Md. – February 9, 2011 – MBA students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business created a business case that secured a $200,000 investment from Lockheed Martin to develop a nanotechnology created by university faculty.

Financial Times Ranks UMD Smith School No. 18 Among U.S. Business Schools

College Park, Md. – January 31, 2011 – The MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is ranked No. 18 in the United States in the Financial Times MBA 2011 rankings, published today. The influential rankings place Smith No. 10 in the world for research, the fifth consecutive year in the top 15. The Smith School’s MBA program also comes in as the No. 4 program among public business schools in the United States in the Financial Times ranking. The program ranked No. 40 globally.

MBA Consulting Forum

In early November 2010, the atrium of Van Munching Hall was packed with almost 200 Smith MBAs and alumni who came to attend the 12th Annual Smith Consulting Forum, the largest event held by any professional student organization at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Organized by the MBA Consulting Club and the Office of Career Services, this year’s forum focused on the practice of “consulting in an unpredictable marketplace.”

Notre Dame Takes Top Prize in Fourth Annual University of Maryland M&A Competition

College Park, Md. – November 1, 2010 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced the winners of its fourth annual Mergers & Acquisitions Competition, held October 28-29. The event, organized by Smith’s MBA Finance Association, challenged 10 teams of MBA students from leading business schools to craft and present M&A pitches to a panel of executive and faculty judges. The student team from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business won the $5,000 first prize.

GE Women Leaders Share Leadership Advice with Smith Women

On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the Smith Association of Women MBAs (SAWMBA) held its annual GE Women’s Panel event at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Over the years, SAWMBA has established a valuable relationship with General Electric (GE), specifically its Women’s Network. Every year, the association hosts a panel that gives Smith women and SAWMBA supporters the opportunity to hear practical and sincere advice from successful women employed by GE. This year’s panel topic was “A Profile of Leadership and Building Career Capital.”
