The Counseling Center and MICA invite UMD students from the AAPI (Asian-American and Pacific Islander) community to join us for a virtual conversation about coping with stress brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic while facing anti-Asian rhetoric.

Hosted by the Smith School of Business, presented by the LGBT Equity Center, open to all UMD staff, faculty, and students. International Pronouns Day is coming up on October 21, and what an opportunity this is to continue our learning around respecting pronouns in our daily, personal, and professional lives. Shige Sakurai (they/them) will give us a brief overview, a short activity, and an opportunity to ask questions.

Join us on October 5th to hear your classmates share their personal experiences with overcoming adversity or discrimination, accepting part of their identity, and the impact that identity has had on their personal or professional lives. It is a safe space where you can share your experience of overcoming hardship. In essence, it’s a ‘coming out’ story but not limited to that. As humans, we learn from each other and this is the perfect way to inspire someone who may feel empowered to make a change in their lives based on a powerful story.

The Counseling Center and Black Student Union invite UMD students from the Black community to a virtual conversation on the various impacts of continued racial injustices towards Black lives in the midst of a pandemic. This event will serve as a space to understand the impact of racial trauma on mental health and to learn ways to cope with race-related stress and daily stressors.
