Smith School of Business welcomes Bruce Richards, co-managing partner & CEO of Marathon Asset Management, to speak on Monday, March 12, 2012, on “An Insider’s View of How to Manage a Multi-Billion Dollar Hedge Fund.” Richards will discuss Marathon’s growth since its founding in 1998, the alternative investment marketplace, the current state of the markets, and investment strategy. The presentation is sponsored by the school's Center for Financial Policy and is a free event, open to the entire Smith School community.

Mark your calendars for the Robert H. Smith School of Business’ largest party of the year: Monte Carlo Night. Join us on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C., for a night of non-stop fun. This year everything is bigger and better, with live music, LED gaming tables, a larger room, extra bars, and an after party with drink specials. The party starts at 8 p.m. and lasts until midnight.

Smith MBAs to Celebrate Annual “International Week”

The MBA community at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is eagerly awaiting the celebration of one of the school’s long held traditions: International Week, Feb 20-23, 2012. Smith students come from a variety of backgrounds: approximately 40 percent of MBAs come from outside of the United States, including China, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Venezuela.

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business was named the best business school Twitter feed for 2011 by “B2BTOY” (B2B Twitterer of the Year). This year’s award winners in the various categories included Lockheed Martin, Maersk, and Toyota, among others. Winners are nominated by Twitter users and selected by a panel of 11 judges. The judges and competition sponsors represent several top advertising, marketing and social media agencies. Last year the Smith School was a runner-up in the category.
