Martin Feldstein Addresses Smith Faculty and Students
What is ahead for the American economy? Martin Feldstein, president emeritus of the National Bureau of Economic Research and George F. Baker Professor of Economics at Harvard University, visited the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business last week to address this question. In his comments to faculty and students, Feldstein stressed that today’s slow growth rate would continue into 2014 but that the long-term prospects for the U.S. are bright, so long as the large and growing national debt is curtailed.

Yellen No Stranger to UMD Finance Students, Faculty
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Janet Yellen, the nominee to chair the Federal Reserve, may be new to you. But she is no stranger to students in the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. For the last few years, a group of Smith undergrads have met Yellen through the Banking and Private Wealth Management Fellows Program. The program, led by Tyser Teaching Fellow Elinda Kiss, has taken students to meet with senior policy leaders at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Federal Reserve buildings in Washington, D.C.

Smith Welcomes MS Students
About 500 new students participated in orientation from Aug. 19 to 27 for the Robert H. Smith School of Business’ Master of Science in Business program. Activities took place on main campus, as well as the Smith centers at Shady Grove and the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C. The Dean’s Office welcomed the students with remarks from newly-appointed Dean Alex Triantis, Interim Dean Michael Ball and Vice Dean Joyce Russell.
