The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is excited to announce some favorite books in the "11th Annual Top-10 Summer Reading List for Business Leaders" for 2014, as recommended by members of its faculty and administrators. If you're heading off to business school as an undergrad/MBA or you are already climbing up the corporate ladder, these books will keep you up-to-date on current trends.

Smith Students Create Health Apps; Google Glass Stands Out

During the second half of the spring 2014 semester, graduate students in the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business developed mobile health applications. Their mission targeted challenges to patient-consumers posed by diabetes, elder care, urgent-care logistics, obesity and treatment selection.

Smith & IBM Host Workshop on Supply Chain Analytics

Supply chain analytics was the theme of the Fourth Annual Business Analytics Workshop, held in College Park, Md., on Friday, May 2, 2014. Co-sponsored by the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and IBM, the day-long workshop consisted of topics ranging from cyber supply chain risk management to disaster response planning and logistics.

Smith Professor Wins Best Paper Award

Wendy Moe, an associate professor of marketing at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, has won the 2014 Robert D. Buzzell Marketing Science Institute Best Paper Award for her research on social media intelligence. 

Smith MS Students Volunteer at Special Olympics

On Friday, May 2, 2014, masters students from the University of Maryland's Roberrt H. Smith School of Business volunteered at the Special Olympics 2014 Unified Outdoor Bocce State High School Invitational at Washington College in Chestertown, Md. Kim Jones, a program coordinator in the Masters Programs Office, along with colleagues Gabrielle Gibson and Tiffany Zook, organized the trip.

Smith to Tailor Three Ceremonies for Graduates

Facebook voters will select best-decorated caps Decorated mortarboards and keynote remarks from a Wall Street veteran will highlight the Robert H. Smith School of Business undergraduate and PhD commencement on May 23, 2014, while MBA and other graduate students celebrate one day earlier in separate ceremonies. Hosting three commencements instead of one, the norm in previous years, will allow the school to shorten each ceremony and create a more intimate atmosphere for each group.

Finance Students Travel to Bangladesh with World Bank

5 Master of Finance students and 3 MBA students from the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business are in Bangladesh April 16-26, 2014 on a one-week mission with the World Bank to explore the possibility of expanding rural electrification through solar energy micro-grids.

He has traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and most points in between.
