FDIC Chairman Gives Context to 2008 Financial Crisis

Factors and implications surrounding the financial crisis of 2008 was the focus of a recent presentation by Martin J. Gruenberg, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, hosted by the Center for Financial Policy at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Smith Professor of Finance Haluk Ünal introduced Gruenberg to students, faculty and staff gathered in the Frank Auditorium for the Nov. 3, 2017 event, titled “The Financial Crisis and its Aftermath.”

Students Visit FDIC and Federal Reserve

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is just a stone’s throw away from the nation’s capital, enabling students to interact with some of the nation’s highest-ranking business officials. This month, Smith School finance professor Elinda Kiss utilized the school’s geographic advantage to take students on experiential trips to the FDIC and Federal Reserve.

Robert H. Smith School of Business finance faculty member Elinda F. Kiss recently took student groups to visit the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Federal Reserve buildings in Washington, D.C. The trips consisted of University of Maryland undergraduate students enrolled in Kiss’s Banking and Private Wealth Management Fellows Program and Master of Science students from her Bank Management course.
